CIPPM attends TV format eventsCIPPM researcher, Sukhpreet Singh has recently been active in creating valuable networks with the global television programming industry. Sukhpreet attended the DISCOP East 08 in Budapest from 17 to 21 June 2008 to interact with and interview worldwide television format producers and distributors. Besides sharing results and observations from his recent empirical work on the last 20 years of format rights disputes, Sukhpreet collected industry data on the use of intellectual property rights in the protection of formats and if non-legal mechanisms were filling in the gaps left by the traditional international IPRs system. The results from this cutting edge research are expected to be published soon to provide an informed basis for discussion to persons and organizations dealing with the framing of IP rights in the creative industries. DISCOP EAST 08 brought together 1729 participants including 1003 television content buyers representing 804 worldwide TV stations, thematic TV channels, DVD distributors, theatrical distributors, territorial agents and production companies, satellite, cable and IPTV operators, from 33 Central and Eastern European countries as well as 596 sales executives representing 421 sales organisations with finished programs, scripted and unscripted formats and packaged TV channels from 52 countries. Sukhpreet also recently presented a paper entitled Marketing strategies for TV Formats Rights Protection at the well attended international media academics conference TV Without Borders organized by University of Reading from 27th to 29th June 2008. << More Bournemouth University News and Events Want to keep up to date with News, Views and Events from CIPPM? |
