Professor Barry Hough - BU Professorial Inaugural Lecture
After leaving office as Acting Public Secretary in Malta, Coleridge complained that he knew "by heart the awkward & wicked machinery by which all our affairs abroad are carried on". In his professorial inauguaral lecture, Professor Barry Hough (pictured, centre) explored one of the crises of 1805, which prompted Coleridge's dilemma as to whether governmental action should ever be inconsistent with, and prevail over, the published laws. Although this event has now concluded, the audio from Professor Hough’s lecture is available to download (see Related Links below). Barry’s expertise lies in the Public law subjects and in Employment law. He also has experience of teaching Planning law at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Barry's current research, which is funded by the British Academy, examines, from a Constitutional law perspective, the Laws and Public Notices promulgated by the poet, S T Coleridge, whilst he was acting Public Secretary in Malta. This is entirely new work in the sense that no scholar has previously offered any analysis of these instruments. A monograph on this subject (with Dr H Davis) is currently in progress as is an academic article on Coleridge’s role as a propagandist for British rule. << More Bournemouth University News and Events Want to keep up to date with News, Views and Events from CIPPM? |
