Paul read Chemistry at University College Oxford and has an LLM in advanced litigation from Nottingham Law School. He was the founding editor of the publication “Intellectual Property Decisions” is the author of the book “Fundamentals of Patent Drafting” published by the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys in 2006 and has many published articles in EIPR and The CIPA Journal. He has served as an examiner in patent drafting, and was a member of the committee that successfully negotiated with the UK government for High Court litigation rights for patent attorneys. He lectures on patent law and practice at UK universities and at conferences organized by UK, US and Japanese professional organizations.

Scholarly interests centre on patent law, and especially comparative law concerning novelty, inventive step and claim interpretation as applied e.g. by the UK courts, the US courts and the European Patent Office.
