Events 2006
In 1841, Lord Macaulay claimed in a famous speech on copyright reform that there are only two ways in which creators can be remunerated: "One of those is patronage; the other is copyright." Unfortunately, he was wrong. This event has now taken place, but you can view the proceedings via a streaming media presentation. Martin Kretschmer is Professor of Information Jurisprudence and Joint Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy & Management , Bournemouth Law School, Bournemouth University, UK. He is also project director (with Prof. Lionel Bently) of a major Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) project on Copyright History at the Centre for Intellectual Property & Information Law, Cambridge University. Martin was educated at Freie Universität Berlin (philosophy), Musikhochschule Wien (music), London School of Economics (law) and University College London (PhD philosophy). Early in his career, he worked as a journalist, including a spell as German consultant editor at BBC Worldwide (1994-5). From 1996-9, he was ESRC Research Fellow at City University's Cass Business School, London.
