A distinctive approach to Intellectual Property Law

CIPPM research projects typically combine legal and social science methodologies, drawing on the economic and management expertise available within its interdisciplinary setting. Since 2000, CIPPM has received more than £400,000 in research funding.

Recent projects include studies on:

• Research into the exploitation of TV formats in emerging markets (funded by the ESRC)
• TV Format Rights: Why pay when you can copy for free? New research sheds light on tv format copyright
• Empirical effects of copyright term extension
• Earnings of authors in the UK and Germany (a survey of 25,000 writers funded by UK collecting society ALCS)
• Finance Patents for the Financial Services Research Forum
• Artists and Copyright in the audio-visual field for the Arts Council
• Intellectual property in the the non-law curriculum
• Geographical Indications under TRIPS for a European government

A major current project is a Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) resource enhancement initiative on Copyright History, jointly with the Centre for Intellectual Property & Information Law and Cambridge University.
